Planetary Resilience & Civilization Continuity

Community members gathered around a table in a rural Ethiopian setting, reviewing maps and planning resources during a resilience workshop — An engineer monitoring industrial control screens relies on satellite networks to keep critical systems running without interruption.

Applications

16.7.1 Civilization Backup Repositories — Hardened orbital and cislunar data vaults storing humanity's foundational knowledge — science, governance, culture, seed genomes — against civilisation-scale catastrophe on Earth.
16.7.2 Genetic & Cultural Archives in Space — Placing digitised genetic libraries, linguistic corpora, and cultural heritage records in hardened orbital or cislunar storage as a civilisation-level backup against catastrophic terrestrial loss.
16.7.3 Planetary-Scale Early Warning — A sovereign-contributed node in a global sensor network detecting asteroid impacts, supervolcanic precursors, solar superflares, and other civilisation-threatening events before they become unsurvivable.
16.7.4 Existential Risk Monitoring — A sovereign satellite network dedicated to detecting, characterising and attributing threats capable of civilisation-scale harm, from asteroid impacts to engineered pandemics and nuclear exchange signatures.
16.7.5 Off-Earth Continuity Capability — Establishing sovereign off-Earth infrastructure — orbital habitats, lunar caches, and autonomous relay nodes — capable of preserving and reconstituting national institutional, biological, and technological continuity after a civilisation-level catastrophe.
